Since 2016, the family of Younglings have kept expanding. These are some remarkable Younglings who are on their journey to what they aspire to be:
Professional, passionate, proficient software engineers
"This would be the most important skill that I learned while being a part of younglings: The ability to teach myself."
-Rossouw Binedell, a full-time software engineer at ABSA GROUP LTD | Younglings Class of 2016
Before joining Younglings I was an eager, post high school student that didn’t have many options when it came to tertiary education. I had been on a part time software development course that started in High school and carried on after the Matric. I joined that and went on to do a six month course on Java and high level development. From there I was lucky enough to join Aliens through the Younglings program.
Being part of Younglings I have learned and grown so much as both a software developer, and a person. The technical skills I obtained are quite wide spread and vary from cross platform mobile dev, to mainstream website dev and even to backend and systems development. All of these have made me into a wanna-be full stack developer that can create just about anything.
I don’t pretend to know it all though, I’m just know that I’ve learned enough to be able to adapt to any situation/problem/product that comes my way. This would be the most important skill that I learned while being a part of younglings: The ability to teach myself.
In the long term I wanna become whatever position challenges me the most. A year ago I thought this was mobile development. A year before that, I was dead sure I would be a web developer. Now I'm leaning more towards backend development. The field changes so rapidly that I don’t think you can really stick to one position as one would in a different career, and as scary as that might sound, Younglings gives you the freedom to hop around and get a good scope of all the different fields. This gift is invaluable and I am truly grateful for the freedom to express and play around to find where I fit in.
